About GWBArizona State University Global Water Brigades is one of many programs in Global Brigades which designs and implements water systems to prevent water related illnesses in communities with limited access to clean water. With a sufficient quantity of properly treated water community members can cut off the connection between water and illness to ultimately live healthier more productive lives. In-country team members work with community leaders to design large scale water systems for the entire community. Once planning and design is complete, volunteers work side-by-side with community members to construct the water system. Additionally Water Brigades and its volunteers provide education and training so that the community can properly administer, operate, and maintain their water system.

What Does a Water Brigade Do?
A one week Water Brigade provides volunteers with the opportunity to make a tangible impact to improve water access and quality in under resourced communities while getting hands on experience in the field of engineering, sustainable development and remote water systems. The Brigade begins with an introduction to the underlying political, economic and geographical issues that hinder the communities from obtaining clean water. The group will travel to one of our predetermined villages to mobilize community members and either begin or finish construction on a segment of an on-going water project. The brigade also involves volunteer conducted educational workshops for families—especially children—about conservation of water usage and consumption, in the homes and the importance of water in terms of health and sanitation.
Why Honduras?
Honduras is the current focus of Water Brigades, where more than 700 annual student volunteers and professionals travel to implement clean water systems in under resourced communities. Communities are selected on an extensive study based on need, access to clean water and include a collection of information to create baseline demographic information.
