About GABArchitecture Brigades volunteers design and construct schools for communities through a 7 day Architecture Brigade in Honduras. Once a University Chapter expresses their interest, they will be provided with a brief on an upcoming design contest. Chapters than have a limited time to submit their school design into a contest against other university chapters. The community then selects the design(s) that best fit their needs. For the construction of the school, all participating chapters, along with any chapters that just want to construct and not design, come together to help build. Student volunteers can join the chapter for the design & build portion or just the build part portion and travel to Honduras to help construct the design that was selected.

What Does an Architecture Brigade Do?
A 7 day Architecture Brigade provides volunteers with the opportunity to make a tangible impact on communities while gaining real life experience in the field of architecture. The design portion allows students to use a think tank design approach that utilizes extensive community dialogue and independent research to create efficient, appropriate, and elegant structures to be embraced and utilized by the communities we serve. The one week brigade in Honduras is focused on the construction of the design and working with the community members to problem solve on how to build the project in a way that is environmentally friendly, uses natural resources, and sticks to the design that was selected.
Why Honduras?Honduras is the current focus of Architecture Brigades, where more than 3,000 Global Brigades volunteers travel annually to provide a holistic system of sustainable health & development. In addition to architecture solutions, Global Brigades volunteers implement clean water projects, operate mobile medical/dental clinics, and provide the backing for small loans. Communities are selected on an extensive study based on need, access to education and include a collection of information to create baseline demographic information.
